Weiss Lake Guides Fishing Report

Updated...January 27, 2014

CRAPPIE:  The crappie fishing has been really good here on Weiss Lake! Everyday has not been great but that has been due to the weather. We have had some really cold temperatures move through the area and that has slowed the fishing down some. We will have a few good days on the lake and then a cold front will shut them down. We were only on the water one day last week. We fished with Mack Chapman and Ray McClanahan from Taylors, South Carolina and finished with a limit of 60 keepers. Those fish were caught trolling Southern Pro Hot Grubs. Also this past week there were several limit stringers caught by casting a fly and cork to the shallow stumps. We took the rest of the week off and worked a booth at the boat show in Nashville, Tennessee. It was a super show and we really enjoyed talking with everyone that stopped by. We saw a lot of old friends and and made a few new ones as well! We will be back out on the water later this week after another cold front pushes through the area. We will have some really cold weather for the first part of the week but temperatures warming back into the 60's for the weekend. Hopefully the fishing will be good again by the end of the week. The fishing in January can be up and down depending on the weather but the spring season will get underway in February and continue into May. This can always vary a little depending on the weather but those months are the best time to catch crappie. During the spring season you will be able to troll in the first few months, then catch them shallow on a fly and cork followed by shooting docks. So the spring season offers anglers a lot of different methods to put crappie in the boat.  I hope to have a good report in just a few days!  Also, we are booking up really fast for the Spring crappie season so if you are interested in a trip give me a call ASAP so we can get your trip set up and your dates reserved!! If you are going to be on the water any this month be sure to use caution due to the low water levels on the lake. Alabama Power has been generating a lot over the last couple of weeks and the lake is almost six feet low which is normal for this time of year! Remember there is a 10 inch size limit on crappie on Weiss Lake and the daily creel limit is 30 per person, per day!  See Ya' on the Water!
