Weiss Lake Guides Fishing Report

Updated...July 1, 2014

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing on Weiss Lake has really slowed down. The weather has really warmed up and the fishing has gotten slower. The crappie have moved out in the deeper water and are holding on structure on the creek and channel ledges. There are a few crappie being caught by anglers fishing at daylight and late in the afternoon. With temperatures getting into the 90's each day the crappie are not very active. The crappie are being caught on minnows using a drop shot rig. The fishing will continue to be slow until we get some cooler weather. There are some fishermen catching bass and stripers and most of those are being caught early as well. But this is normal when fishing in Alabama in the summer months. Now is also a good time to be on the water looking around with your electronics. The fall crappie season will start in October and the key to catching them in the fall is fishing the structure on the ledges. You can go ahead and check some of your favorite areas for structure and mark it on your GPS so you can hit the key areas on the ledges in a few months. If you have one of the side scan units this will really save you some time and help you put more crappie in the boat. We are really starting to book up for the fall crappie season (October through December) so if your interested in a fall trip give us a call ASAP and get your dates reserved. I hope to another fishing report for you in a few days and maybe the fishing will have picked up.  Remember there is a 10 inch size limit on crappie on Weiss Lake and the daily creel limit is 30 per person, per day!  See Ya' on the Water!
